So Young Park
So Young Park (b.1997)
So Young Park is a Vienna-based Korean artist working across live performance and performative installation. She received her BA and MA in Visual Art in Seoul, South Korea, and is currently studying Performance Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Her practice explores the in-between state of living and dying, approaching life and death as interwoven conditions of existence. By tracing the memories inscribed in her own body, Park re-experiences the time her body has witnessed and lived through, sensing how presence and absence coexist. This embodied act of revisiting forms the core of her methodology and allows her to encounter the liveness of the present and the fragility of existence.
Her performative installations extend these bodily experiences into temporal and spatial forms through gesture, objects, and material transformation. Working with fragile materials such as dried plants, flowers, seeds, and sand, Park has recently expanded her practice to include 3D printing, exploring how digital fabrication can give physical form to fragile and transitional states of being.
Park names this approach Warm-Death, a way of integrating death into daily life with tenderness and attentiveness, embracing fragility and transience as inherent rhythms of existence.
She was awarded the Birgit Jürgenssen Prize (2026) and nominated for the Ö1 Talentestipendium für Bildende Kunst (2025) by the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Her work has been presented at institutions and platforms including Belvedere 21, Klima Biennale Wien, Das Weisse Haus, the Korean Cultural Center Vienna, and Dom Museum Wien.
