Biography

Markus Redl (b.1977 in Klosterneuburg, Austria) lives and works in Vienna. Before studying at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna in Erwin Wurm's class, Markus Redl studied psychology with a focus on criminology at the Juridicum in Vienna.

His sculptural practice has been preceded by many years studying literature and theatre. During this time, he was also developing a practice that involved drawing, poetry and text, where language and semiotics play a central role. In addition, Redl has also realized major projects that combine architecture and landscape, figure and abstraction. His latest project was a sculpture for the Würth Collection, in which a sixteen tons sculpture was created from a marble block of more than fifty tons.
