Biographie

Faye Wei Wei (geb. 1994 in London, UK) machte 2016 ihren Abschluss an der Slade School of Fine Art in London, UK (BA Hons).  Faye Wei Wei begreift den Malprozess als intime Choreografie zwischen dem tatsächlichen und dem bildlichen Raum. Ihre Werke kreisen oft um spirituelle Ikonografie und klassische Mythen, Liebesrituale und die Theatralik der Geschlechter. Manchmal deuten ihre Arbeiten die Themen bestimmter mythischer Erzählungen an, in anderen Momenten scheinen sie in einen mehrdeutigen, inneren Raum der Inkongruenz und Ungewissheit abzuweichen.

Wei Wei erhielt eine Kommission des British Council Hongkong in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Auktionshaus Phillips im Rahmen des SPARK-Programms (2019) und wurde mit dem Cass Art Painting Prize for Final Year Slade Graduates (2016) ausgezeichnet.
